The Brothers of Sigma Alpha Epsilon executed one of the most successful dances of the fall semester with the Heaven and Hell Dance in September. Over 500 students attended this Type III campus-sponsored event, held between the Thorne Patio and the JSC Quad. The Brothers of California Epsilon received generous support from ASOC and Programming Board and worked in conjunction with a number of campus departments and administrators to ensure a successful event. The Heaven and Hell Dance received resounding and widespread praise from all corners of the Occidental community, solidifying Sigma Alpha Epsilon's reputation as an organization committed to maintaining a positive campus presence.
∑AE Haunted House
October 2009
The California Epsilon Brothers hosted their annual Haunted House on 29th, 30th and 31st of October, raising money for the Children's Miracle Network charity. Through the implementation of an excellent marketing campaign focused students and local neighbors, as well as a successful ticket presale in the weeks preceding the event, the Brothers of Sigma Alpha Epsilon were able to garner a large amount of support from the Occidental community. Renovations to the house began two weeks prior to the opening, consisting of all black tarps to create a frightening atmosphere and various horrifying scenes to scare any visitor. A new executioner room was added to the overall frightful ambiance, as well as the zombie room in the basement. The dot room continued to be a classic for generating screams, and the newly renovated maze transformed the common room into a dark labyrinth where participants were forced to find their way through unassisted as two brothers dressed as ghouls terrorized them. Overall, California Epsilon was able to reach its two goals, surpassing last year's $700 fundraiser for a total of $1000 and creating a fun terrifying event widely attended by the Occidental and neighboring communities.
John O. Mosley Leadership School
July 2010
Brothers Francisco Hernandez and Jaycee Melendez attended the John O. Moseley Leadership School this past summer. ∑AE continued the tradition of hosting the Leadership School on a cruise ship; this year it departed from Miami, FL. The two Brothers took this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bond with ∑AE Brothers from around the country, enjoying phenomenal weather and great times with their individual chapter groups. Presented with the opportunity to work with their fellow Brothers, Francisco Hernandez and Jaycee Melendez learned and practiced the many leadership ideals necessary to be a True Gentlemen of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, returning to the rest of the California Epsilons to share their wisdom and experience. Francisco will be the Risk Manager this year.
